Project Narrative

Typology Translation: Coastal Elegance on a Ranch Footprint

Bringing Hamptons-inspired design to Pennsylvania isn’t about imitation; it is about architectural translation. The challenge for the Skyline Estate was complex: capturing the vertical grace and historical weight of a multi-story New England Shingle home within the compact framework of a single-story ranch.

David Stumpf Architecture achieved this by manipulating rooflines, texture, and proportion. We grounded the home with heavy shingle textures and sweeping eaves, creating a residence that feels refined yet relaxed—condensing the grandeur of a coastal estate into a manageable, accessible footprint.

Virtual Reality & Design Confidence

To ensure the client felt confident in this stylistic departure, we moved beyond standard blueprints. We utilized a High-Fidelity VR Workflow—moving from Revit documentation to SketchUp visualization, and finally into a Virtual Reality headset. This allowed the owner to "walk" the halls before groundbreaking, experiencing the volume of the Great Room and the flow of the layout. This process eliminated the guesswork often associated with custom construction, empowering the client to make decisive, informed choices about every detail.

Zoning for Lifestyle & "The Service Core"

The floor plan is rigorously zoned for both entertaining and operational efficiency.

  • The Service Core: A dedicated "Grocery Flow" connects the garage directly to the laundry and Butler’s Pantry, keeping the service logistics hidden from the main living areas.

  • The Hobby Wing: The lower level is engineered for recreation, featuring a full wet bar, a dedicated Golf Simulator, and a bespoke "Wrapping Room" for the owner’s creative pursuits.

  • Terraced Outdoor Living: Leveraging the hillside topography, the rear of the home cascades down to the landscape. The walk-out basement connects directly to a terraced pool deck, transitioning from a hot tub on the upper patio to a lower sun deck featuring an Infinity Edge Pool.
