David Stumpf, AIA: High-Rise Rigor. Boutique Craft.
The Intersection of Scale and Detail David Stumpf founded David Stumpf Architecture on a singular premise: that the technical discipline required for large-scale commercial development should be applied to the intimacy of custom residential design.
His background is defined by a rare duality. During his tenure at WDG Architecture in Dallas, David worked on the design and construction of complex, high-stakes projects—from 300-unit luxury apartment complexes and boutique hotels to a 20-story skyscraper for national developers like The Related Companies and Crescent Communities.
In 2020, David returned to Pittsburgh to translate that "High-Rise Rigor" into a boutique practice. Today, he leverages that big-firm technical experience to deliver custom homes, renovations, and commercial spaces that are not only aesthetically striking but structurally and mechanically superior.
Education & Technical Foundation David’s approach is grounded in construction realities, not just theory. He began his studies at Kent State University (B.Arch, 2011), focusing on the intersection of architecture and construction management. He expanded this expertise at the University of Texas at San Antonio (M.Arch, 2015), where his graduate work concentrated on Building Science, Historic Preservation, and Sustainability.
This technical pedigree ensures that every project—whether a historic renovation in Pittsburgh’s South Side or a modern estate in the suburbs—is built to perform.
The Philosophy: Good Work, Good People "I welcome clients who care about legacy. My goal is simple: to do good work with good people. I view architecture as a tool to shape the world we live in, and I treat every project—regardless of scope—as an opportunity to leave a built environment I can be proud of.
