Project Narrative
The Convergence of Neighborhoods
Situated at the nexus of Dallas’s most desirable districts—Turtle Creek, Oak Lawn, and Highland Park—NOVEL Turtle Creek was designed to set a new standard for vertical living. The 20-story tower utilizes a refined palette of cast stone and light brick to evoke a timeless aesthetic, housing 206 luxury residences ranging from 1-bedroom units to expansive top-floor penthouses.
Technical Constraints & FAA Compliance
The site’s location within the flight path of Dallas Love Field Airport presented a unique vertical constraint. The design team, including David Stumpf, worked within strict FAA guidelines to optimize the building’s massing. This coordination ensured the structure maximized density and ceiling heights while strictly adhering to federal flight path building height restrictions.
David Stumpf’s Role: Technical Detailing & Documentation
During his tenure at WDG Architecture, David Stumpf joined the project team during the critical transition from Design Development (DD) to Construction Documents (CD). His primary focus was the technical execution of the building envelope and amenity spaces.
Facade & Envelope Engineering: David was responsible for developing intricate facade details to reflect specific construction methods. This involved defining stone coursing layouts for elevations and wall sections to ensure precise material alignment and robust water management strategies.
Amenity Deck Constructability: David designed and detailed the assembly for the 5th-floor amenity terrace and unit balconies. His work focused on consultant coordination—integrating civil engineering, landscaping, and waterproofing systems into a cohesive architectural detail set.
Quality Control & Standardization: Beyond this specific project, David utilized the masonry detailing developed for NOVEL Turtle Creek to help expand and refine the firm’s internal detail library for high-rise construction, ensuring a legacy of quality control.
This project exemplifies the High-Rise Rigor that David Stumpf Architecture brings to every commission, applying large-scale technical discipline to projects of all sizes.
