Project Narrative
A "Jewel Box" for Midtown
Situated at the heart of the massive Midtown Tampa development, "The Loft" was conceived to function as a visual anchor—a glass and steel jewel box distinct from the surrounding masonry structures. The design intent was rigorous simplicity: to create a building that feels light and transparent while maintaining a grounded structural presence.
David Stumpf led the design process from initial concept through design development, establishing the strong proportional logic that defines the massing. The result is a disciplined façade where clean lines and material clarity organize the complex requirements of a modern Class-A office building.
Urban Integration & Transparency (H3)
In dense mixed-use environments, the relationship between the street and the skyline is critical. The Loft addresses this by utilizing high-transparency glazing to dissolve the boundary between the office environment and the vibrant Midtown district outside. This "Urban Infill" strategy ensures the building activates the streetscape rather than imposing upon it, serving as a beacon for the development.
Design Integrity & Execution
Architecture is a long game. While the project was delivered by WDG Architecture, the initial design vision established by David Stumpf proved resilient enough to carry through to completion with high fidelity. Seeing the built reality align perfectly with the original conceptual rigor confirms that strong design, when shaped with intention, stands with integrity.
