Project Narrative
Site-Responsive Design: Shaping the View
Perched atop the rolling hills of the Laurel Highlands, The Evers Residence is a masterclass in topographic integration. Rather than flattening the 15-acre site, David Stumpf Architecture utilized the dramatic grade changes to drive the design form.
The home is strategically angled to frame sweeping views of the valley town below while minimizing the excavation and clearing required for construction. This approach allows for a "Front-Facing Walk-Out" lower level, rooting the home firmly in the landscape while creating a grand sense of verticality upon approach.
Architectural Character: Southern Charm, Northern Climate
The design merges the comfort of Traditional Southern Architecture with the rugged durability required for a Pennsylvania mountain estate.
The Porch Life: A defining double-story porch wraps the façade, blurring the line between indoor and outdoor living.
The Arrival: A grand entry stair creates a formal architectural promenade, elevating the guest experience from the driveway to the front door.
The Hearth: Two authentic wood-burning fireplaces anchor the home—one in the Great Room for social gathering, and a second in the upstairs Library for private retreat.
Interior Flow & "Boutique" Zoning
While the total built footprint creates a massive 5,793 SF presence, the 2,679 SF of conditioned space is intimate and rigorously organized. The first floor features a dedicated Master Suite and a Great Room that flows into a chef’s kitchen, complete with a hidden Butler’s Pantry for seamless entertaining. The second floor offers a private sanctuary for guests, featuring two bedrooms, a spa-style bath, and a central Library/Den. The resulting layout prioritizes "zoning"—separating the noise of social spaces from the quiet of the private quarters.
